The promotion of the German Language in Kenya

In Kenya, there are about 3.600 persons learning German every year mostly at schools are private institutions as the Goethe Institut Nairobi. In addition, the German School and the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD) both located in Nairobi contribute to the promotion of German as a foreign language.

Promoting the German Language is a key objective of the cultural policy. Around 45 Kenyan Schools do offer German as a foreign language and about 3.200 students take up this offer. In addition, several of our cultural partners do offer German for adults and students at universities. Together 3.600 persons have studied German in 2010. Opening of the German Resource Centre Nairobi

New: German Resource Centre in Nairobi

On 9th March 2010, German Ambassador Margit Hellwig-Boette and CARE International's East-Africa Coordinator, Ms Auma Obama, were the guest speakers at the opening of the new Resource Centre at the German School Nairobi. The Resource Centre is an educational and training facility for German as a foreign language. It is financed by the Foreign Office of the Federal Republic of Germany.

Schools - Partners for the Future

PASCH - Partner School Initiative

The "Schools - Partners for the Future" Initiative aims to build up a worldwide network of at least 1000 partner schools through which to awaken young people's interest in and enthusiasm for modern-day Germany and German society.
